Types of Insurance Coverage
International visitors may seek insurance coverage in two categories:
- "Intentional" Medical Travel Procedures: Traveling specifically for a procedure overseas. Most insurance companies do not cover "intentional international medical travel." This policy is not under the purview of Kasih Ibu Hospital but rather the insurance companies' decisions. Patients typically pay first and seek reimbursement from their insurance provider afterwards. The critical question is whether the insurance company will reimburse the procedure costs rather than if the hospital accepts the insurance.
- "Accidental" Medical Travel Coverage: Coverage for medical treatment needed due to an accident while traveling. Many policies cover "accidental" medical treatment during travel, such as an injury while in a foreign country. It’s crucial to confirm the specifics with your insurance provider before traveling. The hospital’s policy does not influence this; you must check with your insurance company.
For accidental medical coverage, if your insurance company partners with us or with medical assistance companies we have a contract with, we can usually arrange direct billing. You can check the list of our partners here.
Types of Billing
- Direct Billing: This is when the hospital bills your insurance company directly. Many insurance companies allow this, but some require you to pay upfront and seek reimbursement. Plan specifics vary for outpatient and inpatient procedures. We have contracts with several national, international, and assistance companies. Please contact your insurance provider to confirm if direct billing is applicable.
- Reimbursed Billing: For Indonesian citizens and expat patients, many plans necessitate upfront payment followed by reimbursement later. Reimbursed billing is typical when the hospital does not have a contract with the insurance company.
Insurance Information
Kasih Ibu Hospital has contracts with major insurance companies. Check the list of contracted companies and present your insurance card at registration. Notify us if there is any change in your insurance provider.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance covers medical expenses, flight accidents, flight cancellations, medical evacuations, losses incurred while traveling, and many more. Ensure your policy meets your needs. Standard travel insurance may not cover complications from medical tourism. Consider medical tourism complications insurance designed for international medical treatment seekers, which may cover treatment complications.
